"Green" hotels are environmentally friendly properties whose owners and executive management are instituting programs that save water, save energy and reduce solid waste while saving money to help reduce the hospitality industry’s environmental impact. From the large chains and resorts to privately owned boutique hotels, these properties are implementing proactive policies that reduce their carbon footprint and create an environment that attracts leisure travelers and businesses that are now selecting "green" properties for overnight accommodations and special events.
The "Green" Hotels Association® was created in 1993 with the mission of bringing together hotels determined to combat these critical environmental issues head on. For over sixteen years "Green" Hotels Association® has been taking action, promoting and instituting initiatives that educate and involve both guests and owners. Initiatives range from offering towel hangers and sheet changing cards to the development of overall refurbishment strategies. With every measure taken the "Green" Hotels Association® encourages, promotes, and supports the "greening" of the lodging industry.
